Elderly Rock Rapids Man Transferred To Sioux Falls Hospital In Wake Of Friday Afternoon Crash

Rock Rapids, Iowa — An elderly Rock Rapids man was injured in a 2-vehicle crash near Rock Rapids early Friday afternoon.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap occurred at the intersection of Highways 9 and 75, west of Rock Rapids around 1:00 Friday afternoon.

Authorities say their investigation revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet crew cab pulling a flatbed trailer and driven by 34-year-old Tagen Cullison of Sioux City was southbound on Highway 75 and stopped for the stop sign before pulling into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander minivan, driven by 80-year-old Roger Moser of Rock Rapids, causing Moser’s van to strike Cullison’s truck and trailer. Cullison reportedly told deputies he didn’t see the minivan before pulling away from the stop sign.

Deputies estimate approximately $3,500 damage to Cullison’s truck and trailer, while Moser’s minivan was termed a total loss.

Authorities report that Moser was taken to Avera Hospital in Rock Rapids, and later transferred to Avera Sioux Falls.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Lyon County Ambulance and the Rock Rapids Fire Department.
