Sioux Center, Iowa — An electric vehicle (EV) was destroyed in a fire on Saturday, July 29, 2023, near Sioux Center.
According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, at about 4:00 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a car fire at 2463 390th Street, five and a half miles west of Sioux Center.
The chief says the fire department saw lots of smoke and heat as they approached the scene. He says they used only foam to fight the fire.
Van Holland says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but it must have been a malfunction as the owner had been having trouble with it earlier in the day.
Chief Van Holland reports that the EV was destroyed. In fact, he says everything was melted except the side panels and the frame.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene 45 minutes.
