Four Taken To Hospitals After Collision Near Harris

Harris, Iowa — Four people were taken to area hospitals after an accident on Monday morning.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 11:05 a.m., 29-year-old Josue Suarez of Comanche, Texas was driving a 2018 Ford pickup owned by Blattner Energy, about a mile and a half west of the Harris turnoff on Highway 9. Suarez was stopped, waiting for oncoming traffic to turn southbound onto Warbler Avenue, when they report that 66-year-old Betty Darnell of Sheldon failed to see the pickup was stopped and rear-ended it.

The Sibley Ambulance took both occupants of Darnell’s vehicle to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. Both occupants of the Blattner Energy vehicle were taken to the Spirit Lake Hospital by private vehicle.

Damage to the Blattner Energy pickup was estimated at $5000 and the Darnell vehicle, a 2010 Buick Enclave, received about $15,000 in damages, according to the sheriff’s office. They report that the Iowa State Patrol, the Ocheyedan and Sibley Ambulance squads, and both the Ocheyedan and Harris Fire Departments assisted them at the scene.
