Hawarden Woman Goes To Hospital After Accident

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden woman was taken to the hospital as the result of a 2-vehicle accident in Hawarden earlier this week.

The Hawarden Police Department says the mishap occurred at the intersection of 12th Street and Central Avenue when a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer SUV, driven by 27-year old Erodica Castellanos of Hawarden, attempted to exit a private parking lot. Castellanos reportedly told police that another car was pulling into the lot at the same time she was trying to leave, and that she didn’t see a northbound 2009 Ford Focus, driven by 31-year old Emily Knie of Chatsworth. Police say Castellanos pulled onto 12th Street, into the path of Knie’s car.

According to the accident report, Castellanos was transported by ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare to be treated for possible injuries.

Damage to Castellanos’ SUV was estimated at $3-thousand, with damage to Knie’s car estimated at $4-thousand.

Police say Castellanos was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Responsibility.
