Hull Man Involved In Spirit Lake Crash

Hull, Iowa — A Hull man was involved in a two vehicle personal injury accident Thursday afternoon in Spirit Lake.

According to the Spirit Lake Police Department the accident occurred shortly after 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 9 & 71 and Keokuk Avenue in Spirit Lake. Police say a 2019 Ford Ambulance, owned by Lakes Regional Health Center, and driven by 42-year-old Cedric Franken of Hull was eastbound on the highway when a 2014 Kia Soul, driven by 60-year-old Teresa Jording of Spirit Lake pulled from a stop sign into the path of the ambulance driven by Franken. Franken told authorities that he had tried to brake to avoid the collision, but was unable to stop before striking the Jording car.

Police say the ambulance had its emergency lights and siren activated at the time of the crash, but Jording reportedly told police that she hadn’t seen or heard the ambulance approaching.

Jording was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision.

Authorities estimate damage to the ambulance at about $6,500, while damage to Jording’s Kia is estimated at $12,000. Police say Jording was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
