Man Taken To Hospital After Crash With Railroad Vehicle

Hull, Iowa — A Hull man was taken to a hospital after his vehicle collided with a railroad maintenance-of-way vehicle near Hull on Monday, May 14th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about at 12:15 p.m., 55-year-old Randall Westra of Hull was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on 340th Street. They report that 39-year-old Jeromy Van Beek of Garretson, SD was driving a 2016 Ford F‐250, operating the vehicle as a railway inspection vehicle southbound on the BNSF railway when the two met and struck in the railroad crossing.

The Hull Ambulance took Westra to the Sioux Center Health Hospital.

His Chevrolet Silverado sustained about $14,000 in damage. The BNSF Ford F-250 sustained about $12,000 in damage.

Westra was cited on a charge of failure to yield the right of way at a railroad crossing area.
