Hawarden, Iowa — We told you recently that a Hawarden man had been arrested recently on burglary charges. The Hawarden Police Department now reports that another arrest was made in connection with that case, and due to that investigation, a search warrant was issued and was carried out, which led to two more arrests.
We told you about the arrest of 30-year-old Matthew James Heimbecker of Hawarden, which happened early Friday morning.
According to Hawarden Police Chief Mike DeBruin, an officer noticed a pickup parked near some storage buildings. He said the officer didn’t recognize the pickup. Later, he saw someone driving the pickup, which then had a generator in the back, according to the chief. He says the officer stopped it and found gloves, bolt cutters, and other burglary tools in the vehicle.
He says when the police department went back to the storage building, they discovered that several locks had been cut off. The chief says officers believe that’s where generator came from.
Heimbecker was charged with Third Degree Burglary, Third Degree Theft and Possession Of Burglar’s Tools. Burglary in the third degree is a class “D” felony. Theft in the third degree is an aggravated misdemeanor. Possession of Burglar’s Tools is an aggravated misdemeanor.
Due to the investigation into that crime, a search warrant was obtained and executed the next day. DeBruin says they found items that were allegedly stolen in a burglary of a residential garage in Hawarden two weeks earlier. Reported missing in that burglary were about $10,000 in tools and a tool chest, as well as a TV and other miscellaneous items. He says that burglary was reported on September 29th, 2015.
Due to the items found during the search, Heimbecker was additionally charged with one count of First Degree Theft, which is a class “C” felony and eight more counts of Third Degree Burglary in connection with the two incidents.
Also arrested in connection with the initial incident was 22-year-old Austin Nappe of Hawarden. Charges against Nappe include nine counts of Third Degree Burglary, one count of First Degree and one count of Third Degree Theft, and possession of burglar’s tools.
Hawarden Police officers also arrested 25-year-old Ashley Heimbecker and charged her with First Degree Theft and Third Degree Burglary. They also arrested 32-year-old Adam Fuller and charged him with First Degree Theft.
