Sheldon Fire Company Answers Pair Of Weekend Calls

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company responded to two separate calls over the weekend.

Shortly after 7:00 Saturday morning firefighters were dispatched to a fire alarm at 501 Normal College Avenue, which is East Elementary School. When firefighters arrived on the scene they discovered that the alarm was actually one in the Children’s World portion of the structure. Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms tells KIWA that fire crews discovered a bad alarm sensor in the alarm system that caused the alarm to erroneously go off. Harms says no fire was found. Fire crews were back at the station after about an hour.

Late Sunday evening, Sheldon firefighters were dispatched to the west side of the Sheldon City Park to the report of a trash receptacle on fire. Harms says the fire was quickly extinguished once doused with water. He says the blaze appears to be accidental in nature. Firefighters were on scene for about 40-minutes.
