Sheldon Fire Department Called Out Twice Thursday

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company was called out twice Thursday, first to a Sheldon residence, then to a local office.

The first call came in about 4:35 Thursday afternoon, and sent firefighters to a home at 814 7th Avenue, where the residents reported smelling and seeing smoke. Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms says firefighters tracked down the source of the smoke, and determined it had been caused by water in the home’s basement causing a furnace motor to short out.

The second call of the day came shortly before 10:00 Thursday night, when the department was called to AGP in Sheldon, again to the report of smoke. Harms tells KIWA that in that incident, firefighters were able to trace the source of the smoke to a furnace motor that had gone bad in the company office. Harms says the AGP call was unrelated to Thursday’s flooding.
