Spencer Woman Accused Of Striking Bicyclist On Purpose

Spencer, Iowa — A Spencer woman was arrested on Wednesday (Sept. 5th) after she was accused of using her vehicle to strike a bicyclist on purpose, and then assaulting her.

The Spencer Police Department reports that one of their officers arrested 44-year-old Wendy Willard of Spencer on Wednesday and charged her with Willful Injury, a class D felony; Assault while participating in a felony, also a class D felony; and Assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Police say the arrests stem from an investigation into an incident where Willard allegedly struck a bicyclist intentionally with her motor vehicle and then physically assaulted her near the Spencer Walmart on August 30th. Willard was booked into the Clay County Jail.

Jail officials tell us that the magistrate set an unsecured bond for Willard, and she was released on Thursday.
