Woman Accused Of Stealing & Forging Sioux Center Man’s Checks

Sioux County, Iowa — A 22-year old woman faces Forgery and Theft charges following her arrest by Orange City Police.

Police say 22-year old Margarita Anne Feldman befriended a Sioux Center man who, according to authorities, became something of a surrogate grandfather. According to the Orange City Police Department, the victim would help Feldman out, giving her rides on several occasions, during which time she would allegedly steal one or two checks from his checkbook. Cops say this happened multiple times.

Police say Feldman would make the checks payable to herself, then forge the victim’s signature. She’s accused of cashing the allegedly forged checks at Iowa State Bank in Orange City.

According to authorities, the checks were drawn on accounts at two separate Sioux Center banks, and the theft first came to light when one of the Sioux Center banks contacted the victim about one of the checks. A call to the second Sioux Center bank turned up other allegedly forged checks.

Police say the total of the forged checks was about $65-hundred.

According to authorities, Feldman is charged with 2nd Degree Theft, and Forgery, both Class D Felonies.

As of mid-morning Tuesday, Feldman was being held in the Sioux County Jail, according to online jail records.
