Arrest Made In November Car Chase

handcuffs - subject inO’Brien County, Iowa — A couple of weeks ago we told you about a high-speed chase that passed through Sheldon, as well as other areas of the county.  We now know, as Paul Harvey used to say, the rest of the story.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, at about 8:30 pm on November 23rd the Sanborn Police Department conducted a traffic stop with a white Pontiac Grand Prix in the Casey’s store parking lot in Sanborn.  During the stop, the driver, who authorities identify as Saverio Marino, decided to speed away from the stop.  Deputies say officers pursued the vehicle through O’Brien and Clay Counties, including the communities of Sheldon, Sanborn, and Hartley.  Authorities say they terminated the pursuit due to the speeds involved, as well as public safety concerns.

According to authorities, shortly after 11:00 Wednesday night (December 7th) Marino was arrested without incident at a residence in Paullina, on numerous warrants including:  Eluding; Reckless Driving; Interference With Official Acts: Driving While Revoked; Speeding; and Four Stop Sign Violations for a total bond of $4,400 cash or surety.

Deputies say Marino was also arrested on three other O’Brien County bond revocation warrants that reportedly stemmed from two incidents where they say Marino attempted to elude police.  According to authorities, the previous incidents involved a stolen motorcycle, drug, and firearms violations.  Marino’s total bond is currently $24,100 cash.  Authorities say the investigation is continuing, and more charges are expected.

Marino was reportedly booked into the O’Brien County Jail following Wednesday night’s arrest.

Agencies involved in the November chase, along with Marino’s arrest, included the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Paullina Police Department, Sanborn Police Department, Sheldon Police Department, Hartley Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.
