Routine Transport Turns To Foot Chase For Sioux County Deputy

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookSioux County, Iowa — What started as a routine transport ended up as a foot pursuit for a Sioux County Deputy in Sioux City earlier this week.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Chad DeVries was returning to Sioux County after transporting a Sioux County resident to a Sioux City hospital for a mental health committal.  Deputy DeVries reportedly witnessed a motorcyclist strike a deer on the roadway near the intersection of Highway 75 and Outer Drive North in Sioux City shortly before 8:00 Monday evening.  Authorities say Deputy DeVries stopped to render aid to the motorcyclist, when the driver fled on foot into a ditch area. DeVries reportedly pursued the driver and was able to apprehend him a short time later.

DeVries says he suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and then found that he also had a revoked driver’s license and an outstanding felony warrant.

Authorities say Deputy DeVries detained the driver until the Sioux City Police Department arrived on scene.  Sioux City police reportedly arrested 41-year old Jason Allynof Sioux City for the felony warrant, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license, no motor vehicle insurance and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second offense.
