Coats For Kids Drive In Progess – UPDATE

Sheldon, Iowa — With the cutoff date for donations coming up this Friday, we checked in with Mary DeBoer at Bubbles in Sheldon to see how the Coats for Kids Drive has been progressing.

She told KIWA that they have received approximately 300 coats to this point, with at least 50 of those being brand new. In addition, approximately 25 pairs of snow pants have been donated as well as a few pairs of snow boots.

When asked if the donations have covered all sizes of coats, DeBoer stated that it’s been fairly even, but there have been more middle school to adult sizes donated to this point.

There’s still time to drop off donations at Bubbles in Sheldon as the outerwear drive will run through the end of this week.

The Sheldon Ministerial Association will distribute the outerwear on Saturday, November 4th at the Sheldon Community Services Center from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Original story:
Sheldon, Iowa – Fall has officially arrived, and winter will be here before we know it. This year marks the seventeenth year of the Coats for Kids Program in Sheldon. It was started in 2000.

KIWA and Bubbles are co-sponsoring the drive, and we had the opportunity to visit with Mary DeBoer, manager of the Sheldon location of Bubbles and Bee Kleen about the program. It’s called “Coats For Kids,” but by what she tells us, it could be called “Outerwear for All.”

She says the Sheldon Ministerial Association distributes the coats. Three hundred coats per year on average have been donated.

DeBoer says they do get a little help with the coats.

But she says they’re looking for new or gently used coats, not coats that are worn out or badly damaged.

She says coats aren’t the only thing they accept.

DeBoer says they accept the coats at Bubbles.

Bubbles will accept the outerwear starting on Monday, September 25th, and until Friday, October 27th.

Coats will be available on Saturday, November 4th at the Community Services Center.

It is suggested that as you are getting ready for the impending cold weather, that you go through your closets, attics, or basements and then take your unneeded outerwear to Bubbles before October 27th.
