Sheldon Fire Chief Jerry Meyer says that when fire crews got there, they saw heavy smoke coming out of one maintenance garage truck bays.

Meyer says a call was made for more manpower from Sanborn and Archer as the extent of the fire was unknown at that time.

The first attack crew found that the chassis cab of a feed truck was on fire.

He says water with foam was applied and the fire was under control in about 10 minutes.

The chief says the cause of the fire is unknown. He says it appears that the truck and body would be a total loss.

On-scene reports indicate that Second Avenue — Old Highway 60 — was shut down from Highway 18 all the way south to the Glen’s Sport Center area, due in part to fire hoses strung across the roadway.

Meyeer says there were no injuries, and the crew was on scene about 2 hours.

The Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and Sheldon Emergency Management Agency assisted at the scene.
