Fire Destroys Hundreds Of Motorcycles Near Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — “Hundreds of motorcycles” were destroyed in a fire on Sunday, June 25, 2017 near Rock Valley. That from Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis.

Eshuis says that about 10:30 PM, the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire three miles west and two north of Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire department saw the whole south end of the barn on fire with fire up to the haymow as they approached the scene. He says that the building was being used to store hundreds of motorcycles for parts. He says the owner had been selling motorcycle parts on the Internet. He says the haymow alone had over 200 motorcycles in it, and the main floor of the barn was full of motorcycles and parts as well.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported.

He says the Inwood, Doon, and Hudson fire departments were also summoned to bring water to the fire.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

He says they used between 25,000 and 30,000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene until 1:30 a.m.
