Fundraising Complete For New Playground Structure At East

playgroundSheldon, Iowa — A new play structure will soon be gracing the playground at East Elementary School in Sheldon, following a successful fund-raising effort by the Excellence For East Committee.

East Elementary Principal Jason Groendyke tells us how the project came about.

Late last year the Sheldon Community School District Board of Education had agreed to help finance a part of the $63-thousand project, providing donations could be collected to pay for the remainder of the cost.  Groendyke calls the District’s contribution to the project “generous”.

He says the Excellence For East Committee worked very hard to secure the remainder of the funds needed to pay for the play structure.

Groendyke says they plan to begin construction in late June.

He says the students at East were very excited about the prospect of the new play structure, although he described some of the school’s 4th graders as “bummed” because they would have moved to the middle school by the time the new play structure is built.  Groendyke says he assured them that they were still welcome to come use the new structure after school.
