ISU Field Agronomist Says Farmers Should See “Decent Yields”

Northwestr Iowa — The fall harvest season is upon us, and we caught up with Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Paul Kassel Wednesday morning to talk about this fall’s harvest. Kassel says things are just getting a good start at this point.

He says some farmers are getting a little nervous with the delays caused by recent rainy weather.

We asked Kassel if he had heard anything about yields at this point.

If you drive around northwest Iowa you’ll see some farms that already have at least some of their corn out, but Kassel says the corn that is out at this point in the season is mostly being used for sileage.

He says that, while the crop yields are looking good, there is some concern about low commodity prices.

Kassel says the best thing that could happen to help with the harvest, at this point, would be several days of sunny, dry weather.
