National School Choice Week; St. Pat’s School Has A Lot To Offer

Sheldon, Iowa — This is National School Choice Week. Organizers say school choice means giving parents access to the best K-12 education options for their children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling, several of which are available in northwest Iowa.

We talked with Sheldon St. Patrick’s School Lead Teacher Jessica Schmalen, who tells us why she thinks parents should consider private education.

Mrs. Schmalen tells us how St. Patrick’s is run.

We asked her if she’d support a school voucher system.

Mrs. Schmalen also says that it doesn’t cost a lot to go to a Catholic school.

She tells us what’s available at St. Pat’s.

Organizers of National School Choice Week tell us that over 40,500 events and activities throughout the United States are planned to celebrate the week. They say the events are to raise public awareness of the different K-12 education options available to children and families while also spotlighting the benefits of school choice.
