Rock Rapids, Iowa — A sheriff patrol vehicle serves as a memorial for a northwest Iowa sheriff’s deputy who lost her life on Tuesday.

The Lyon County Sheriff pickup was placed in front of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office as a memorial for Deputy Stephanie Schreurs, who died on Tuesday from injuries sustained in a crash last Friday. Deputy Schreurs served and protected Lyon County’s citizens for 24 years. The pickup has been fitted with Deputy Schreurs’ badge number license plate, 60-11.

Sheriff’s officials are telling people to feel free to stop and leave flowers or a memento in her honor. A Rock Rapids flower shop is giving out up to 300 carnations, one-per-person for leaving on the memorial.

We at KIWA offer our sincere condolences to the Schreurs family and to her fellow officers, EMTs, and the staff at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
