Sheldon Iowa Rocks Christmas

Sheldon, Iowa – We’ve told you in the past of the “kindness rocks” movement that’s become so popular, not just in Sheldon, but around the world.

The local Sheldon Group, “Sheldon Iowa Rocks” has created a public presence in the community, hosting paint n’ take events, working with the local Girl Scouts, handing out Halloween themed rocks for downtown trick-or-treaters, and even placing kindness baskets with inspirational rocks at Sanford, the nursing home, and the Sheldon Public Library to try and help uplift lives, one rock at a time.

Most recently, the group has been very busy trying to make Christmas just a little more special for children who stop to visit with Santa at the Sheldon Public Library. Angi Kramme, founder of the group, shared that they started gifting Christmas rocks last year and received such a positive response that they decided to do it again this year.

While they had 300 painted treasures to gift to children last year, Kramme knew they would need a lot more this year if they wanted every child to receive one. There are a total of six dates that Santa is making appearances at the Sheldon library this year, three more than last year. Kramme put out the call to the group and they delivered! To date, there have been over 600 rocks contributed by local members for this event, with 250+ of them already going home with kiddos.

If you haven’t had the chance to bring the kids out to see Santa at the library, there’s still time. He’ll be making appearances this Saturday, December 15th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, and again on Monday, December 17th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. While the rocks gifted to children at this event are treasures for them to keep, if you find a painted rock out in the wild you can share it on their Facebook page “Sheldon Iowa Rocks” to help keep the kindness movement going.

Below are images of some of the rocks from which the children were able to choose during Monday evening’s event, and some of the children showing off the rocks they selected…………………..
