Sibley Teen Wins Branstad State Fair Scholarship

Sibley, Iowa — A Sibley teen is one of three Iowans who have been named as recipients of the 2017 Governor Terry E. Branstad Iowa State Fair Scholarships.  The scholarship recognizes outstanding high school seniors who have actively participated in the Iowa State Fair, and plan to attend an Iowa college or university.

According to Iowa College Aid, Hannah Dagel of Sibley was one of the scholarship recipients.  Dagel is a graduate of home schooling, and plans to attend Dordt College in Sioux Center.  Iowa College Aid says Dagel’s application characterized the three qualities of the Iowa State Fair:  achievement, discovery and hope.  In her application, Dagel wrote that many young adults, including herself, are aspiring to rise up to the responsibilities that line ahead.  She noted that her generation will be the next inventors, farmers, doctors, educators and soldiers.

In addition to Hannah Dagel, the other Branstad Scholarship winners are Macy Evans of Creston, and Elizabeth Smith of Decorah, both of whom will continue their education at Iowa State University.

Dagel, Evans, and Smith will receive their awards during the Iowa State Fair.  Each will be presented a certificate of recognition by Governor Kim Reynolds on Saturday, August 12th at 7:00 pm on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage.
