Total Solar Eclipse Coming August 21st

Northwest Iowa — A very rare and special event is coming August 21st.  On that date a Total Solar Eclipse will be visible from coast to coast here in the United States.

Linda Burkhart of the Sanford Museum Planetarium in Cherokee talks about when the eclipse will be visible.

Burkhart says that, while a Total Solar Eclipse is visible somewhere in the world fairly regularly, it’s been nearly a century since a Total Solar Eclipse passed completely across the United States.

She explains the science behind a Total Solar Eclipse.

Burkhart says the Sanford Planetarium at the Sanford Museum in Cherokee will host a viewing of the eclipse.

The eleven US states that sit directly in the path of this Total Solar Eclipse are Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina.  The major city with the best view will be Nashville, Tennessee.
