The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly before 11:28 AM, 18-year-old Bradley Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley was driving a 2002 Volvo straight truck westbound on 360th Street, about five miles southeast of Rock Valley. They say 71-year-old Robert Flynn of Rock Valley was driving a 2000 Volvo S70 car southbound on Garfield Avenue. Van Veldhuizen drove onto Garfield Avenue where his truck was struck by the Flynn car.

Flynn and a passenger, 65-year-old Victoria Dennis of Rock Valley were trapped in their vehicle and required mechanical extrication by the fire department. The Rock Valley Ambulance took Flynn and Dennis to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

The Volvo truck sustained about $4,000 in damage. The Volvo passenger car sustained an estimated $7,000 in damage.

Van Veldhuizen was cited on a charge of failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance crew assisted them.
