Northwest Iowa — It appears that both of the school bond issues that were voted on Tuesday did pass.
For the Northwest Iowa Community College Referendum (60% of all votes needed to pass):
Cherokee County
54 yes (83.08%)
11 no (16.92%)
Lyon County
556 yes (74%)
194 no (26%)
O’Brien County
2104 yes (74.4%)
725 no (25.6%)
Osceola County
177 yes (74%)
62 no (26%)
Sioux County
971 yes (71.93%)
379 no (28.07%)
So, doing some quick calculations, it appears that the NCC referendum has passed by 73.8%. It needed 60% to pass. The results are unofficial until they are first compiled by the controlling county, which in this case is Sioux County — and then they must be canvassed to be official.

1199 yes (65.55%)

Northwest Iowa — Voters are going to the polls today to decide the fate of two separate referendums involving school funding.
In the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School District voters will be asked to approve an $18.9-million bond issue to be used to fund improvements to all District facilities, including the Elementary, Middle and High School buildings.
The O’Brien County Auditor’s Office says polls will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm today, and HMS voters may cast their ballots at these locations: Hartley residents, along with Melvin residents east of Van Buren Avenue, will vote at the Hartley Public Library; Sanborn residents, as well as Melvin residents living west of Van Buren, will cast their votes at the Sanborn Community Building.
The other bond issue, if approved, would raise $14.2-million over 15-years to expand training programs for the college. College officials say the aim of expanding the job programs available at NCC is to help young workers and families to stay in the area.
In O’Brien County, voters will cast their NCC Referendum ballots at these locations: In Sheldon at the Community Services Center; in the South O’Brien School District, Paullina voters will cast their ballots at the Paullina Community Building; while Primghar residents will vote at the O’Brien County Courthouse Assembly Room; and voters in Sutherland will go to the Masonic Lodge to cast their ballots.
In Lyon County, voters will cast their NCC Referendum ballots at the following locations: in George, at the George Community Building; Doon voters will go to the New Community Building; in Little Rock, the Town & Country Building will be the polling site; in Rock Rapids, at the Forster Community Center; while West Lyon voters will cast their ballots at the West Lyon Community School.
Voters in Sioux County will cast their NCC Referendum votes as follows: In Alton at the Alton Community Center; Boyden residents at the DEMCO Community Center; Hawarden, at the Community Center; in Hospers at the Community Center; at the Hull Public Library; Ireton City Hall; Maurice voters will go to the Community Center; in Orange City, voters will go to the Living Water Community Church, Rock Valley voters will cast their ballots at the Faith Reformed Church; and in Sioux Center, the polling location is the Terrace View Events Center.
Voters in Osceola County will cast their ballots at: the Osceola County Courthouse in Sibley; and the Ocheyedan Town Hall.
The Auditor’s offices in all four counties remind voters that they will cast their ballots for the NCC Referendum at their normal school election polling locations.
Again, the polls are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm for today’s Northwest Iowa Community College Referendum, as well as the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Bond Issue.
