Rock Rapids, Iowa — Rock Rapids firefighters responded to a car fire call near the downtown stoplight on Wednesday.
The fire was located in the parking spaces on the east side of the street near El Sinai Salvadoreno, which is in the former Corner Rexall Drug building.
Assistant Fire Chief Eric Borman says the fire was in the engine compartment. He says he was the first to arrive on the scene in his personal vehicle, and he had a fire extinguisher that they sprayed under the hood until the fire trucks arrived, and then they sprayed water on it.
Borman says they believe the cause was electrical in nature. He says there was only moderate damage, but he wouldn’t be surprised if the vehicle is totaled.
Firefighters were on the scene for about 15 minutes.
