2015 AFCA-NAIA Coaches’ All-Americans

naia_logoWaco Texas — The AFCA has released the NAIA Coaches All American football teams and a pair of area players have been honored.

Sam Van Ginkel, a junior defensive end from Rock Valley, Iowa, earned first team honors as a key player among a Red Raider defense that was once again one of the NAIA’s best in scoring (13th) and total (2nd) defense. He ranked seventh in the NAIA with 9.5 sacks and totaled 45 tackles. Van Ginkel, now with 28.5 career sacks, is just a half a sack away from tying the GPAC record and 1.5 sacks shy of matching the Northwestern career sack record, held by Riley Kleinhesselink (1998-2001). He also forced two fumbles and blocked three kicks this season and is a three-time first team all-conference selection.

Justin Wohlert, a senior defensive back from Hartley, Iowa, was named to the second team and was also an integral part of the Red Raider defense. Wohlert totaled 23 tackles and ranked 10th in the GPAC with two interceptions. He broke up nine passes and finished his career with 14 interceptions, 11th most in program history. Wohlert was a three-time all-conference selection including first team honors the last two years.
