Dordt Defender All-Star Games Played Saturday

Dordt_Defenders logoSioux Center Iowa — Dordt College hosted the Defender Gold Club/American State Bank High School Basketball All-Star Games on Saturday, March 19th.

The De Witt Gym on Dordt’s campus was the site of the girls and boys games matching seniors from the War Eagle, Lakes and Siouxland Conferences.

The girls three-point shooting contest winner was Chanda Zomermaand who converted 21 baskets in one minute and Levi Jansen made 18 shots to win the boys contest. Jansen also earned team MVP honors with a 33 point outburst while Matt Van Engen claimed the MVP award for his team. The girls MVP’s were Anna Kiel and Payton Harmsen.

The Black team opened a 27-20 halftime lead over the White team in the girls All-Star game going on to win 60-44. The Black team was led by Chanda Zomermaand of Unity Christian with 14 points. She was joined in double figures by Unity team mate Anna Kiel with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The White team was led by Payton Harmsen of Western Christian with 10 points.

The boys game was a shoot out with the White team up 62-50 at the half. The Black team would outscore the White team 54-47 in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the White team held on to win 109-104.

The White team had four players in double figures led by Levi Jansen of MOC Floyd Valley with 33 points hitting 9-three pointers in the contest. Team mate Christian Korver hit for 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. They were joined by Myles Van Maanen of Rock Valley with 12 points and Brian Perez of Hartley Melvin Sanborn with 12 points as well.

The Black team had five players in double figures. Matt Van Engen of Sioux Center led the way with 26 points. Team mate Marcus Winterfeld hit for 17. Taylor Miedema of Western Christian and Dalton Moser of Boyden Hull had 14 points each. Josh Van Lingen of Western Christian hit for 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
