Nighthawks Advance To 2A Championship With 48-12 Win

Cedar Falls, Iowa — The #2 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks used 4 takeaways in the first half to catapult themselves to the Class 2A Championship next week at the UNI-Dome with a 48-12 win over defending 2A champion Waukon.

The Nighthawks jumped on the board first. After Trey Huyser picked off a Creed Welch pass, BHRV  capitalized with the short field with an Elliott Van Kekerix 1 yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 early in the contest. The Indians responded 2 drives later with a 68 yard touchdown reception from Dawson Baures. After the failed 2 point try it was 7-6 Nighthawks. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley responded on their next drive, going 63 yards which was capped off by a JT Van’t Hul 1 yard touchdown run to make it 14-6.

BHRV turned the ball over on downs at the Waukon 1 yard line, and the very next play, running back Ethan O’Neill fumbled the snap and the Nighthawks recovered the fumble in the end zone to make it 21-6 early in the second quarter. The next Nighthawk possession resulted in points after Keaton Moser drove the team 62 yards, capped off by the Brayton Van Kekerix 15 yard TD reception to make it 28-6 heading into the half.

To start the second half, the Nighthawks and Indians traded scores. Brayton Van Kekerix scored on a 48 yard catch and run to make it 35-6, but the Indians responded with a 53 yard Avery Rocksvold touchdown reception to push the score to 35-12. One play from scrimmage later, Elliott Van Kekerix found some space and scored on the 63 yard run making it 41-12.  BHRV added one more score early in the fourth, and that would make it your final 48-12.

The Nighthawks improve to 11-1 on the year, and will play PCM Monroe who shut out West Liberty 27-0 in Saturdays other semi final. The 2A Championship will be decided Friday, November 15th at 2:00 pm. Waukon ends their year at 10-2.
