Orabs And Wolverines Split Doubleheader

Paullina, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs split a basketball double header in Paullina Saturday afternoon. The girls game went to South O’Brien 63-49, and the boys game went to Sheldon 64-53.

A big first half from Hannah Dau of South O’Brien carried the Wolverines to a 63-49 victory over the Sheldon Orabs.

Sheldon had a 7-4 lead early then South O’Brien went on a 15-0 run and took a 19-11 lead after 1. Dau had 13 1st quarter points. Dau added another 10 points in the 2nd quarter, and South O’Brien led 43-27 at the break. Sheldon then outscored the Wolverines 15-7 in the 3rd to pull within 8, 50-42. The Orabs started the final quarter with a 5-0 run to pull within 3, but South O’Brien hit some key free throws and came away with the 63-49 win.

South O’Brien had a game high 28 points from Hannah Dau, 23 came in the first half. Sheldon had 2 players in double figures. Cassidy Bart had a team high 14 points, and Emily Meyer added 13 points.

South O’Brien improves to 4-0 on the year. Sheldon falls to 0-4 on the season.

The boys game was a clinic from long range. Sheldon and South O’Brien hit a combined 18 three pointers.

South O’Brien hit three from beyond the arc in the 1st quarter to take a slim 15-14 lead after the 1st, and another 5 to take a 30-26 halftime lead. John Weaver for the Wolverines had 15 first half points, all coming from beyond the arc. Sheldon then got hot from long range in the 3rd quarter. Steve Van Meetern, Tyler Merley, and Phil Cain had a combined 4 three pointers to take a 46-42 lead heading into the final quarter and Sheldon came away with the 64-53 victory.

Sheldon had three players in double figures. Cain had a team high 14 points, Kyle Boerhave added 12, and Jaden Kleinhesselink had 13 points of his own. South O’Brien got a game high 18 points from Weaver, all three pointers, and Carson Louscher had 11 points.

Sheldon improves to 2-1 on the year, South O’Brien falls to 1-2 on the season.

Up next for the Orabs is a doubleheader at home against Rock Valley Tuesday night. South O’Brien will be at home Tuesday to take on Harris-Lake Park.
