Dordt Falls In NAIA Volleyball Championship

Dordt College was unable to overcome the no. 1 ranked Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) Blue Raiders on Saturday night in the NAIA National Championship Title match held at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Defenders fought from behind much of the match, dropping set one 25-16 and set two 25-23.

In set two the Defenders grabbed an early 4-1 advantage but relinquished the lead at 10-9 and had to battle back from an eventual four point difference. Dordt did narrow it to 13-11 after a ball handling error but the top-seed in the tournament extended the lead to 23-19.

A kill by Haley Moss cut the lead down to 24-22 and Leah Kamp had a kill to get within 24-23 but a blocking error on Dordt gave Lindsey Wilson a 25-23.

The Defenders fought off a sweep as they built up a 19-12 advantage and held on to win 25-20 with a kill by Ally Krommendyk finishing the set.

The Defenders didn’t have much left and couldn’t make a serious charge at the Blue Raiders and fell 25-14.

This is Dordt’s second runner-up finish in as many years.
