Sheldon and Central Lyon Split Basketball Doubleheader

basketballSheldon Iowa — Sheldon and Central Lyon split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Sheldon Friday night. The girls game went to the Orabs 38-36 with the Lions taking the boys game 61-47.

In the girls game Central Lyon opened an 11-8 first quarter lead and were up 21-14 at halftime. Sheldon took their first lead of the contest in the third quarter and were in front 26-25 heading into the final 8 minutes. Sheldon held on for win 38-36.

Kayla Van Meeteren was the games top scorer with 14 points. A dozen came in the second half. Sydney Iedema was next with 8. Central Lyon was led by Hope Rasmussen with 9 points and Ashley Boer with 8. With the win Sheldon is now 4-15 on the year and 3-13 in the conference. Central Lyon is 7-12 for the year and 6-11 in the Siouxland.

 

In the boys game the Lions jumped out to an 18-4 first quarter lead and rode that momentum to their 13th win of the season. At the half the lead was 24-14 and 39-28 at the end of the third quarter. The Orabs were able to close to within 8 points in the fourth quarter only to see Central Lyon nail down the win at the free throw line. Five players would combine to go 16-of-21 in the fourth quarter alone.

CJ Roths led all scorers with 20 points. Riley Van Wyhe hit for 15 and Cade Knobloch added 11 as three of the five starters ended up in double figures. Sheldon was led by Jaden Kleinhesselink with 16 points.  Ian Jongewaard was next with 8.

Central Lyon improves to 13-5 with the win and 11-5 in the conference. Sheldon stands at 8-10 for the year and 8-7 in the Siouxland. Up next for Sheldon is a Saturday trip to West Lyon to make up the doubleheader stormed out on Tuesday. The varsity only contests will come your way on KIWA FM 105.3 beginning with pregame for the girls at 6:05. Central Lyon will be back in action on Saturday as well playing host to Trinity Christian.
