Case IH offers maintenance tips for your planters

IARN — Spring planting season is right around the corner, which means now is an ideal time to make sure all of your equipment is checked over and ready to go for when it’s time to hit the fields.

David Brennan, Case IH planter marketing manager, tells IARN that farmers need to go over their pre-season checklists when it comes to their planting equipment.

“Really just investigating that planter to make sure that all of those components, specifically the ground engaging components, are ready for that season,” said Brennan. “Down time is not something we want to see in that critical season. All of those ground engaging components from disk openers and those offset disk openers making sure they are spaced properly and that the bearings are good.”

Brennan says once planting season is in full swing, farmers need to pay close attention to their electronics.

“We maybe get a little nervous about those electronics sometimes,” said Brennan. “We are in the cab and start to notice maybe a row falling off meaning the population is starting to degrade on us. Those types of things, trust the electronics. Get out and investigate. Don’t sit there and say it will fix itself.”

If farmers have problems figuring out an issue with their equipment, Brennan says they can easily visit the Case IH YouTube channel and find helpful tutorials.

“We’ve got a good suite of videos. We have bite size videos for each subsystem of a Case IH early riser planter. It walks you through how to look at it, make sure it’s operational, set up for the season, and set properly.”

Brennan made his comments to the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network at the 2022 Commodity Classic in New Orleans.
