Closures & Delays

First Reformed Church in Sheldon is open to any stranded travelers who need a place to be while the winds calm down and the roads become safe again.

SCHOOLS:

Boyden-Hull at Gehlen High School basketball for tonight is postponed

Central Lyon – All after-school activities are canceled. School WILL dismiss at 3:15 pm

Harris-Lake Park – Elementary dismissing at 2:20 pm, Middle School & High School dismissing at 2:30 pm.

Sheldon – G-LR at Sheldon Basketball postponed. Sheldon-SOS at Sioux Center Wrestling postponed until Monday December 22nd, same bus and start times

Sheldon – Students will NOT be released from school until the travel ban is lifted. Parents may pick up their children if they wish. Please call the respective office to let them know you are at the school or come inside to the main office. Due to the travel advisory, Sheldon schools are not able to dismiss students to walk or drive home without parent permission. If you wish to give your child permission to walk or drive home, please call the respective office as well. Sheldon schools will work as quickly as possible to communicate this with students. They appreciate your patience as they navigate this process. 

Sheldon Christian vs Sanborn basketball game has been postponed

Sibley-Ocheyedan – Basketball vs ELC is POSTPONED. Wrestling at ELC is POSTPONED, NO After School Activities

West Lyon – Due to extreme winds and weather there will be NO after school activities today.  All regular bus routes  will run as scheduled, but there will be no activity buses.  

CHURCHES:

Hope Reformed of George – Christmas Meditation tonight has been postponed until December 20th from 5 to 7 pm

Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley – Mobile Food Bank has been postponed. More information will come later.

OTHER:

The Eyecare Center in Sheldon is CLOSED

Boyden Library – CLOSED. Christmas Story Time is canceled for this evening

Sioux and O’Brien County authorities are advising NO TRAVEL due to the white-out conditions. The Iowa State Patrol strongly urges you to delay travel if at all possible.

The Sheldon landfill closed at 9:00 am today due to high winds. Recycling is still being accepted. The Landfill will reopen tomorrow morning at 6:30 am.

The Lyon County Courthouse in Rock Rapids is closed to the public until further notice due to a burglary/vandalism. (announcement from Lyon County Sheriff)

The Akron-Westfield Wrestling Tournament that was scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, has been rescheduled to Saturday, January 3rd, in Akron. Times will remain the same at this point.
