Northwestern College will host a “Happy Birthday, USA” concert on Thursday, September 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel.
The White Spruce Chamber Players, a Sioux Falls-based ensemble known for bringing fresh energy to chamber music, will perform iconic American works in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. A freewill donation will be collected to support the guest musicians.
The program includes Dvořák’s String Quintet No. 3, “American,” inspired by his 1893 summer in Spillville, Iowa, and Copland’s Suite from “Appalachian Spring,” conducted by Dr. Angela Carlson of Northwestern College. The ensemble’s repertoire highlights both new and underperformed works, and their visit marks a meaningful return of Dvořák’s music to the state where it was composed.
