Sutherland, Iowa– An Alta man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Sutherland on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 1:05 p.m., 35-year-old Joseph Leonard of Alta was driving a 2004 Chevy pickup northbound on Taft Avenue, about halfway between Primghar and Sutherland, three miles west and four and a half north of Sutherland.
The report says that the roads were 100% ice and snow-covered at the time of the accident. The deputy tells us Leonard stated that he was driving slowly but his pickup started to fishtail before it entered the east ditch. He says once the pickup had entered the ditch, it rolled over onto the roof.
According to the deputy’s report, the Sutherland Ambulance took Leonard to Mercy One- Primghar Hospital.
Leonard’s Chevy pickup sustained $5000 in damages.
