Alton Man Facing Felony Burglary, Theft Charges In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — An Alton man has been arrested on burglary and theft charges after he allegedly took an “e-bike” in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 18-year-old Gilberto Briones Munoz of Alton is accused of taking the bike sometime between September 2022 and March 2023. He was arrested on Thursday, March 2nd, 2023.

The complaint states that the victim had placed his electric bicycle, or “e-bike” in a shed at the city park. Briones Munoz is accused of taking the bike from the shed while the victim was gone, and then selling it to a friend. The victim says the bike was worth about $4500.

Briones Munoz was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft, both class D felonies. If convicted of a class D felony, Briones Munoz could face up to five years in prison.

Briones Munoz faces a preliminary hearing on Monday, March 13th, 2023.

At last report, he remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
