Alvord Woman Rolled Pickup When She Veered For Deer

Alvord, Iowa– An Alvord woman was taken to the hospital after an accident near Alvord on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 10:20 a.m., 36-year-old Shanna Yates of Alvord was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup southbound on Elmwood Avenue, about a mile and a half south of Alvord’s east side.

The report says that Yates told the trooper that a deer ran out in front of her. She says she swerved to avoid the deer. Yates lost control and the vehicle rolled one time before coming to rest on its wheels.

The Lyon County Ambulance took Yates to Hegg Health Center Hospital in Rock Valley. Her injuries were termed “non-life-threatening.”

Yates’s Chevy pickup was totaled with $2500 in damages.

She was charged with failure to maintain control.

The Alvord Fire Department assisted at the scene.
