Apartment Part Of Machine Shed Near Hospers Sustains Significant Damage In Fire

Hospers, Iowa — A machine shed with an apartment inside was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, near Hospers.

According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, at about 12:40 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a machine shed fire at 3975 Nest Avenue, four miles east and a little north of Hospers.

The chief says the fire department saw light smoke coming from the building with a small area of discolored metal visible as they approached the scene. He says they used an interior attack, then pulled sheet metal from outside to get at the fire.

Overmole says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Granville Fire Department per their auto-aid agreement, and they requested aid from the Sheldon Fire Company.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Overmole reports that the apartment part of the building sustained significant damage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
