Archer Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident By Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — An Archer woman was taken to the hospital after an accident near Rock Valley on Thursday morning, May 16.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, just before 7:40 a.m., 17-year-old Kiara Hickey of Doon was diving a 2016 Honda Accord southbound on Garfield Avenue, three miles east of Rock Valley. The report says she stopped for a stop sign at Highway 18. They tell us 62-year-old Rhonda Vandenhull of Archer was driving a 2024 Cadillac XT5 eastbound on Highway 18, and 61-year-old Gilberto Martinez of Rock Valley was driving a 2018 Ford Escape northbound on Garfield Avenue.

The report says Martinez stopped for a stop sign at Highway 18. Hickey entered the intersection where her Honda and the Vandenhull Cadillac collided. After that collision, both the Vandenhull Cadillac and the Hickey Honda collided with the Martinez Ford.

The Rock Valley Ambulance took Vandenhull to Hegg Health Center.

The Honda sustained about $9,000 in damage; the Cadillac sustained an estimated $13,000 in damage and the Ford sustained about $12,000 in damage.

Hickey was cited on a charge of failure to yield upon entering a through highway.

The sheriff’s office says the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Ambulance Squad, Rock Valley Fire Department, and Sioux County Conservation assisted with the response to the accident.
