Orange City Man Faces Felony Assault Charge

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City man has been arrested on felony assault charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Orange City Police Department, 30-year-old Nicholas Baltazar of Orange City is accused of assault impeding air or blood flow. He was arrested on Thursday.

In his statement, the officer says that during a domestic altercation, Baltazar took the victim to the ground and placed his hands on the neck, applying pressure and obstructing normal breathing and circulation of blood, while also causing injuries to the neck.

Baltazar was charged with domestic assault with choking, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Baltazar faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on May 28th.

At last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5000 bond.
