Boyden Man Faces Felony Sex Abuse Of A Minor Charges

Orange City, Iowa — A Boyden man has been arrested on felony sex abuse charges.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Bernardo Diaz of Boyden is accused of sexually abusing a minor. He was arrested on Friday night.

Deputies say the arrest stemmed from an investigation where it was reported that Diaz had inappropriate contact with a minor.

Diaz was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with third degree sex abuse, a class C felony, and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, a class D felony. If he’s convicted he could face up to ten years in prison on the class C charge, and up to five years on the class D charge. The sheriff’s office tells us he’s also charged with lascivious acts with a minor.

Diaz faces a preliminary hearing on October 15th.

At last report, Diaz remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
