Sheldon, Iowa — A Boyden man was taken to the hospital after crashing his pickup on Highway 18 west of Sheldon Monday morning.
According to the Sheldon Police Department, shortly after 9:15 Monday morning they received a report of a single-vehicle injury accident near the Highway 18 bridge, about one-half-mile west of the Western Avenue Intersection.
Authorities say a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 69-year-old Dwayne Allen Van Meeteren of Boyden was eastbound on Highway 18 when he reportedly lost control of the pickup, hit the guardrail, then went over the guardrail, ending up in the ditch. Van Meeteren reportedly told police that he was taking medication that made him drowsy.
Van Meeteren was transported to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.
Damage to Van Meeteren’s truck was estimated at $7,000, with an estimated $2,000 damage to the guardrail.
