Car Driven By Minnesota Woman Strikes Deer, Catches Fire In Median Of Hwy 60 Near Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A vehicle driven by a woman from Minnesota was damaged in a crash and fire near Sheldon on Tuesday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, at about 7:30 a.m., 25-year-old Ciera Marie O’Brien Keough of Prior Lake, Minnesota, was driving a 2021 Subaru Assent southbound on Highway 60, three miles south of Sheldon, when she struck a deer in the roadway. The Subaru came to rest in the median and caught fire.

The Subaru sustained approximately $25,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the Sheldon Fire Company, the Sheldon Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted with the response to the accident and fire.
