Doon, Iowa — The Doon Fire Department was called out for a fire on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026.
According to Doon Fire Chief Adam Van Engen, at about 3:05 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a brush fire at 3235 210th Street, three miles east of Doon, four north, and one and a half east, or a mile and a half east of the Lakewood corner.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw a pasture on fire.
Van Engen says no injuries were reported.
He says a controlled fire in a burn barrel spread outside containment.
Chief Van Engen reports that the damage was limited to pasture grasses.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
Van Engen says he would strongly urge anyone with burn pits or containments to maintain the area around them. Clean up debris and overgrown weeds, and also don’t put your burn pit near structures or bales. Also, Van Engen says you need to be very aware of wind and humidity. High wind and low humidity can spread what was a controlled fire days after you think your fire was burned out.
