Rock Valley, Iowa — A Doon woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Rock Valley on Sunday, October 25, 2020.
The Rock Valley Police Department reports that about 11:05 a.m., 35-year-old Jonathan McKenny of Inwood was driving a 2004 Saturn northbound on Tenth Avenue, in Rock Valley. Thirty-two-year-old Megan Jacobsma of Doon was southbound on Tenth in a 2006 Chevy.
The report says that McKenny was preparing to negotiate the curve between Thirteenth Street and Fourteenth Street. The officer says McKenny states he lost control of the vehicle in the curve due to very slippery road conditions from ongoing snowfall. As a result, he crossed over the centerline and struck the Jacobsma Chevy in the curve, essentially head-on.
The Rock Valley Ambulance took Jacobsma to Hegg Health Center Avera Hospital. Four children in her vehicle were also checked out in the emergency department, according to the report.
McKenny’s Saturn sustained $7000 in damages, and Jacobsma’s Chevy sustained $5000 in damages.
The report alleges McKenny was driving too fast for conditions. He was charged with failure to maintain control.
