Drivers Of Trucks From Sheldon, Orange City Trucking Firms Injured In Crash

Hinton, Iowa — Drivers of trucks from trucking firms in Sheldon and Orange City were taken to a Sioux City hospital after an accident late Wednesday morning in Hinton.

The Iowa State Patrol says that about 11:40 a.m. a crash occurred on Highway 75 and County Road C-60 in Hinton. A northbound dump truck, pulling a trailer, driven by 42-year-old, Jonathan DeGroot of Orange City, was at the stop light, getting ready to pull away for the green light. At that moment, it was struck from behind and then side-swiped by a semi, which was driven by 32-year-old Ryan Van Gorp.

Both drivers were injured in the collision, and the Hinton Ambulance Squad took them to Sioux City Mercy Hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says Van Gorp’s city of residence is listed as North Liberty on his driver’s license. The semi is registered to JT Trucking, with a Sioux Falls address. The dump truck that was driven by DeGroot is registered to DeGroot Trucking out of Orange City, all according to Sgt. Nathan Ludwig of the Iowa State Patrol.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. They report that the Plymouth County Sheriffs Office, Hinton Police Department, Merrill Police Department, both the Enforcement and Maintenance divisions of the Iowa Department of Transportation, and the Hinton Fire Department assisted them with the response to the accident.
