Electricity Knocked Out To One NW Iowa Town After Auger Snags Power Lines

Granville, Iowa — Power was knocked out to Granville and some surrounding areas late Thursday morning when a post auger being pulled by a pickup snagged a number of power lines.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 61-year-old Dennis Schmit of Alton was driving a 1993 Ford pickup westbound on Highway 10 from Monroe Avenue in O’Brien county to west of Granville in Sioux county. Authorities say the auger it was pulling had been left extended and that it knocked down several power lines at various intersections for about six miles.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the power lines was put at roughly $5,000.
