Fire Damages Welding Machine At Kooima’s In Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — The Rock Valley Fire Department was called out on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, for a Rock Valley area call.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 4:15 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a fire at Kooima Company at 2638 310th Street on the east side of Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire started when sparks from a welding machine got into the machine’s filter and started burning the filter. He says firefighters started putting it out with fire extinguishers and ended up spraying a little water on it as well. He says the workers took the machine outside with a forklift.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported. He says the Hull Fire Department is always called to structure fires in Rock Valley, but once the Hull firefighters arrived, he told them they could go back to their station.

Chief Eshuis reports that the damage was limited to the machine, which he says might be salvageable.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.
