Primghar, Iowa — A house was destroyed in a fire early on Monday, May 12th, 2025, in Primghar.
According to Primghar Fire Chief Cory Crouch, at about 3:45 a.m., the Primghar Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 180 First Street Northwest in Primghar.
As firefighters arrived, the deck and porch were engulfed in flames, according to the chief. He stated that they initially fought the fire from the outside using two hose lines, then used a fan to ventilate the building as they moved inside to extinguish the remaining fire.
Crouch reported that no one was injured.
The Sanborn Fire Department also helped at the scene.
According to the chief, a charcoal grill on the deck was used earlier in the evening, around dusk. He indicated that the fire seems to have started near the grill, leading them to believe it might be the cause.
Chief Crouch reports that the house is probably totaled, as there was fire all through the main floor and extensive smoke damage.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two and a half hours.
He tells us the occupants have made other living arrangements and the American Red Cross is in contact with them.
